Trisomy is a numerical chromosomal aberration (mutation at the chromosomal level). It is an aneuploidy in which one chromosome is missing. Instead of two chromosomes, there are three. Examples of trisomies include:
Down syndrome (trisomy of chromosome 21),
Edwards syndrome (trisomy of chromosome 18),
Patau’s syndrome (trisomy of chromosome 13).
