Artificial insemination, like any other surgical procedure, carries certain risks. A typical complication associated with the delivery of hormones to the human body is OHSS, that is, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. This syndrome can cause abdominal pain or enlargement, abdominal pressure, enlargement of the ovaries, ovarian cysts and, in its more severe form, fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity. Symptoms of OHSS will sooner or later resolve on their own, but any treatment must always include regular and careful monitoring of the entire stimulation.
