A silent pregnancy is a specific condition that occurs when a gestational sac forms in the uterus but embryonic tissue does not develop. This means that no embryonic egg or embryonic structure is present in the uterine cavity.
Symptoms of a silent pregnancy can include delayed menstruation, mild bleeding and painful and enlarged breasts, but they can also occur without any symptoms. The condition is diagnosed by ultrasound, which will show an empty gestational sac with no visible embryo.
