Sometimes, the path to having a baby takes longer than expected. It brings moments of joy and disappointment, hope and difficult decisions. If you have already explored all available options, the donated embryo program – also known as DEMI – could offer you a new chance to fulfill your dream of starting a family.
What is a donated embryo?
A donated embryo is created by combining an egg and sperm from anonymous donors. The embryos are developed in a modern MIRI incubator, which provides optimal conditions similar to a mother’s womb. Once the embryos reach a certain stage of development – usually on day 5 or 6 (blastocyst stage) – they are gently frozen using vitrification and safely stored in laboratory conditions at ultra-low temperatures. This process preserves their quality until the right time comes for embryo transfer.
Who is this program for?
Although current assisted reproduction methods can achieve a great deal, there are situations where conceiving a child using your own reproductive cells is no longer possible. This may be due to a combination of factors such as advanced age, genetic burden, premature ovarian failure in women, poor sperm quality in men (e.g. azoospermia), or repeated unsuccessful attempts at fertilization.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages:
- The entire process is very simple – you only need to visit our clinic once, on the day of embryo transfer. Consultations and preparation are done online, with support from an experienced English-speaking coordinator.
- Donated embryos come from young, healthy, anonymous donors who have undergone thorough medical and genetic screening.
- The program is more affordable than conventional IVF with egg and sperm donation.
Disadvantages:
- The embryo is not genetically related to either intended parent.
- It is not possible to select specific characteristics of the donors. Embryos come from already existing donated cells and are not matched to individual preferences. However, we always do our best to ensure that basic characteristics (such as hair and eye color) are aligned as closely as possible.
Program Type / Price
