SpermMobil A special medium used to artificially activate sperm. Adding the medium to a sample of completely immotile sperm activates the energy reserves of live sperm, which gain motility. This makes it easy to distinguish live sperm from dead sperm.
SpermMobile facilitates the selection of viable sperm during egg fertilization. The medium is particularly helpful in cases where sperm has been obtained by surgical retrieval from the testes and epididymis (TESE, MESA) or by electroejaculation or in samples with critically low or zero motility.
This increases a couple’s chances of fertilizing their eggs with their own sperm without having to use a donor.
