In many countries, not only legislation but also specific medical indications and the practices of individual clinics determine which treatments are available. Below, we summarise the most common differences international couples encounter to help you compare your options and plan your treatment with confidence.
Anonymous Egg and Sperm Donation
According to Act No. 373/2011 Coll. on Specific Health Services, in the Czech Republic:
- both egg and sperm donation are completely anonymous,
- the entire donation process is managed by the clinic,
- all donors undergo comprehensive medical and genetic screening.
In addition:
- donor matching is based on physical characteristics and compatibility,
- waiting times are short.
In some countries egg donation is not anonymous. Once the child reaches a certain age, they have the legal right to know the donor’s identity. In addition, couples are often required to find their own donor.
This allows you to benefit from a safe, professionally managed, and discreet donation programme without unnecessary stress or complicated arrangements.
Advanced Treatment Options Without Legislative Restrictions
In some countries preimplantation genetic testing of embryos (PGT) is restricted by law and may only be performed for specific medical indications. In the Czech Republic, PGT can be used whenever it may help increase your chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy and having a healthy baby.

Fertility Treatment in the Czech Republic – Step by Step
Step 1: Initial Contact and Online Consultation
Once you submit your enquiry, one of our coordinators will contact you. She speaks your language and will arrange an online video consultation with you. She will be your first guide throughout the entire treatment journey and your main point of contact whenever you have questions.
Your coordinator will help you with:
- explaining the entire treatment process,
- creating your personalised treatment timeline,
- preparing the necessary documentation,
- answering all your questions.

Step 2: Your First Visit to the Clinic (One Day in Brno/Ostrava)
Brno and Ostrava are easily accessible by car, train, or plane.
Did you know? If you wish, we can also arrange your airport transfer from Brno, Ostrava, Prague, Vienna, or Bratislava. Simply send us your flight details, and we will make sure a driver is waiting to take you directly to our clinic or your accommodation.
For your first visit, you only need to stay in the Czech Republic for the duration of your appointment at the clinic (usually no more than three hours). During this time, we can complete several important steps of your treatment. The exact programme depends on whether you are undergoing treatment with your own eggs and sperm or using donor eggs or donor sperm.
If you already have examination results from your doctor or another fertility clinic, you can bring them with you or send them to your coordinator in advance.
During your first visit, you can expect:
- Ultrasound examination,
- Semen analysis,
- Blood tests,
- Genetic testing if required (for example, karyotype analysis or PANDA testing),
- A consultation with your doctor and coordinator to finalise your personalised treatment plan.
If your doctor recommends treatment using donor eggs or donor sperm, your first visit will also include a consultation with your coordinator about donor selection, a detailed explanation of the entire process, clarification of the treatment timeline, and a follow-up consultation with your doctor regarding the next steps.

Step 3: Ovarian Stimulation (8–12 Days at Home)
You will undergo ovarian stimulation in the comfort of your own home. The medication is administered as subcutaneous injections using a fine needle, and after a short demonstration, most women are able to administer the injections themselves.
If you are undergoing treatment with donor eggs, you will not undergo ovarian stimulation. Instead, the stimulation is carried out by your egg donor.
Throughout the stimulation period, you will benefit from:
- regular contact with your coordinator in your own language,
- the possibility to call or email us whenever you need,
- monitoring appointments with your local gynaecologist,
- continuous evaluation of your results by our fertility specialist,
- clear guidance and support every step of the way.

Step 4: Your Second Visit to the Clinic (One Day in Brno/Ostrava)
If you are undergoing treatment using your own eggs, your second visit takes place once your follicles have matured and it is time for egg retrieval.
During this visit, you will undergo:
- egg retrieval under short general anaesthesia (the procedure itself takes only a few minutes),
- semen collection by your partner in a dedicated collection room (by prior arrangement, the sample may also be brought from your hotel in a container provided by the clinic),
- a short recovery period before returning home or to your hotel.

Step 5: Fertilisation and Embryo Culture
After your eggs have been collected, the next stage of treatment is carried out in our embryology laboratory. If preimplantation genetic testing has been recommended, our genetics laboratory also becomes involved.
What Happens in the Embryology Laboratory?
- Fertilisation of the eggs using the highest-quality sperm (for example, by ICSI or PICSI).
- Embryo culture in state-of-the-art incubators.

- Daily monitoring of embryo development, with embryologists assessing their quality and progress.
- Selection of the most promising embryos for transfer or genetic testing.

What Happens in the Genetics Laboratory? (If Your Doctor Recommends PGT)
- Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is performed using a few cells taken from the outer layer of the embryo.
- Identification of possible chromosomal or genetic abnormalities.
- Recommendation of the embryo with the highest potential for a successful pregnancy.
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) helps increase the chances of achieving a successful pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby. It makes it possible to detect chromosomal abnormalities or inherited genetic conditions before the embryo is transferred to the uterus.
Step 6: Your Third Visit to the Clinic (One Day in Brno/Ostrava)
Your third visit is scheduled for embryo transfer – the moment when the selected embryo is placed into your uterus.
In most cases, the transfer is performed as a frozen embryo transfer (FET). This means that after fertilisation and embryo culture, the embryo has been cryopreserved and is transferred during a later cycle, when your uterine lining is optimally prepared. This approach often increases the chances of successful implantation.
How can you maximise the success of your frozen embryo transfer (FET) and increase your chances of achieving the pregnancy you have been hoping for?
During your frozen embryo transfer (FET), you can expect:
- a short and gentle procedure,
- embryo transfer using a fine catheter (without the need for anaesthesia),
- a brief rest afterwards,
- return home on the same day.
If you are undergoing treatment with donor eggs, the entire process usually requires only two visits to the clinic: the initial consultation and examinations, followed by the embryo transfer.
After Your Embryo Transfer
Once you return home, we recommend taking things a little easier and allowing yourself time to rest.
Your coordinator will tell you exactly when to take a pregnancy test. We usually recommend testing 14 days after the embryo transfer, as medications used during IVF treatment may affect the result. Testing too early can lead to a false-positive result or unnecessary stress caused by a false-negative test.
