ICSI: Intracytoplasmic sperm injection

What is ICSI?

ICSI is the most widely used micromanipulation techniques in which one sperm is actively transferred into each egg.

When is ICSI used?

It is applicable and recommended for all cycles of in vitro fertilization because it greatly increases the success rate. It is explicitly required in the case of a reduced sperm count or their lack of mobility, as well as in the case of an immunological factor of infertility, a low quality or low number of retrieved oocytes, and always when the method of preimplantation genetic testing is planned and in other special cases.

Are there any risks to the method?

This method is safe according to the development of the embryo and does not affect the incidence of birth defects in foetuses.
